Companion piece to "Red Fuji" — the same Fuji silhouette, but seen from below during a summer thunderstorm. Lightning fractures the dark base of the mountain while the summit, above the cloud line, stays in calm sunlit air. Together with "Red Fuji" and "The Great Wave", it is one of the three signature compositions of the series and is often paired in exhibitions with the calm version to demonstrate Hokusai's range of weather and mood.
