The fourth and most celebrated of the Arles versions, painted in August 1888 to decorate the Yellow House for Paul Gauguin's arrival. Yellow flowers against a yellow ground — a near-monochromatic study in chrome yellow, then a recently invented pigment. The painting entered the National Gallery's collection in 1924 and has become the most reproduced of all Van Gogh's sunflowers.
