Artist community
Paolo Veronese (1528–1588) dominated Venetian painting with vast, shimmering banquet scenes and ceiling frescoes of unmatched chromatic brilliance. Taking his name from his birthplace Verona, he trained under Antonio Badile before moving to Venice in 1553, where he quickly established himself as the city's leading fresco painter. His most celebrated works—The Wedding at Cana and The Feast in the House of Levi—are crowded with figures arranged in majestic architectural settings, their luminous colors and narrative richness creating what admirers called visual poetry.
