福田平八郎

Fukuda Heihachirō (1892–1974) was a Nihonga painter whose refined observational eye distilled the essence and beauty of his subjects into forms of striking clarity. Born in Ōita, he trained at Kyoto's art schools before his work "Snow" was accepted to the inaugural Imperial Exhibition in 1919. Three years later, his "Carp" was selected as an award winner and acquired by the Imperial Household. He spent his career pursuing the movement and sensation of water—a lifelong preoccupation crystallized in works like "Ripples," which captures the shimmer of reflections on a pond's surface.
