ラファエル・コラン

Raphaël Collin moved between two worlds. A Parisian academic painter trained in the studios of Bouguereau and Cabanel, he mastered the classical tradition but quietly reformed it, softening academic severity with impressionist light and color. He won prizes at the Salon from 1873 onward and received commissions for major Parisian buildings—the Opéra-Comique, the Hôtel de Ville. Yet his lasting influence came through his studio's open door to Japan.
