本阿弥光悦

Hon'ami Kōetsu (1558–1637) was a Kyoto-born calligrapher, potter, lacquerer, and devotee of tea ceremony whose innovations across multiple disciplines shaped Japanese aesthetics for centuries. Born into a family of sword connoisseurs who served the imperial court and major warlords, Kōetsu himself became renowned less for inherited skills than for his own accomplishments.
