オラース・ヴェルネ
Artist community
Horace Vernet (1789–1863) was a French painter who brought contemporary warfare and Orientalist subjects into the Romantic era with unprecedented immediacy. Born into a family of painters—grandson of Claude-Joseph Vernet and son of Carle Vernet—he rejected academic classicism for vivid, realistic depictions of modern soldiers. During the Bourbon Restoration, his rapid series of battle paintings, including The Battle of Valmy and The Battle of Montmirail, earned him commissions from the duc d'Orléans and later King Louis-Philippe. He directed the French Academy in Rome from 1829 to 1835.
