Paul Signac developed the technique of pointillism alongside Georges Seurat, establishing himself as one of Neo-Impressionism's leading figures. Born in Paris in 1863, he initially studied architecture before turning to painting, drawn by Monet's color and Seurat's systematic methods. After meeting Seurat in 1884, Signac adopted the precise, dotted brushwork of pointillism, though he later warmed the palette with Monet's influence, creating a distinctive style. A passionate sailor, he made his home in Saint-Tropez, painting seascapes and harbor scenes that became his signature subjects.
