アンソニー・ヴァン・ダイク

Anthony van Dyck was a Flemish Baroque painter who became the most influential court portraitist of his age. Born in Antwerp in 1599, he trained under Hendrick van Balen and quickly became Peter Paul Rubens's chief assistant. After working in London for King James I in 1620, van Dyck spent six formative years in Italy, particularly Genoa, where he encountered Titian's revolutionary use of colour and developed his distinctive full-length portrait style. Returning to Flanders, he was appointed court painter to the Archduchess Isabella in 1630.
