ルネ・マグリット

René Magritte painted the ordinary world made strange. Born in Lessines in 1898, he worked in Brussels as a graphic designer and poster artist before committing himself to painting full-time in 1926. His first surreal works emerged that year, and though he spent three formative years in Paris in the late 1920s, he returned to Brussels in 1930 and remained there for the rest of his life, living a deliberately ordinary existence as a devoted husband and meticulous craftsman.
