ギュスターヴ・モロー

Gustave Moreau created a visionary art of biblical and mythological subjects that revitalized exhausted classical themes. Born in Paris in 1826, he trained at the École des Beaux-Arts but forged his own path, drawing inspiration from the Italian Renaissance masters during extended travels to Italy. His 1864 painting *Oedipus and the Sphinx* brought him recognition and established his reputation as a sophisticated colorist and draftsman.
