ギュスターヴ・ドレ

Gustave Doré (1832–1883) was a French illustrator whose wood-engravings defined the visual language of literature for his era and beyond. Working from his teens as a caricaturist, he became renowned for illustrations to Dante's Divine Comedy, the Bible, Cervantes, Milton, and Rabelais—works that achieved unprecedented international circulation through electrotype reproduction. His depictions of Don Quixote shaped how readers everywhere imagined those characters.
