ローレンス・アルマ＝タデマ

Lawrence Alma-Tadema brought ancient Rome and Greece to life with luminous precision. Born in Dronryp, Netherlands in 1836, he trained in Antwerp under Gustaf Wappers and later Baron Jan August Hendrik Leys before his honeymoon visit to Pompeii in 1863 transformed his artistic vision. Captivated by the ruins and archaeological discoveries, he became the Victorian era's supreme painter of classical antiquity, rendering marble, luxurious interiors, and the daily life of the ancient world with meticulous accuracy.
