Nakamura Tsune (1887–1924) was a Japanese Western-style painter whose brief career unfolded against a backdrop of personal hardship. Orphaned by his early teens and ravaged by tuberculosis, he pursued painting as a path to recovery, studying at the White Horse Society Research Institute and later the Pacific Western Painting Society. Based from 1911 at the Nakamura-ya in Shinjuku—a gathering place for avant-garde artists—he gained recognition for portrait and figurative work, particularly his studies of Sōma Toshiko in the early 1910s.
