Hiroshi Sugimoto crafts photographs that slow time to a standstill. Working with an 8×10 large-format camera, he has developed a distinctive visual language across decades of rigorous series work: dioramas that appear startlingly real until scrutiny reveals them as artifice; theatres filled with light from entire feature films; seascapes bifurcated by a single horizon line repeated across the world's waters; wax figures lit as if by sixteenth-century painters.
