靉光

Ai-Mitsu (1907–1946) was a Japanese painter whose distinctive vision emerged from surrealism and Chinese literati painting traditions. Born Nichiro Ishimura in Hiroshima, he moved to Tokyo as a teenager and studied at the Pacific Painting Society, absorbing influences from French modernism. By the 1930s his work grew increasingly avant-garde; his 1938 masterpiece *Landscape with an Eye*, now in the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, established him as an important figure in modern Japanese art.
