アンリ＝ジョゼフ・アルピニー

Henri-Joseph Harpignies painted the French landscape with a precision and warmth that made him a central figure of the Barbizon school. Born in Valenciennes in 1819, he came to art late, entering Jean Achard's Paris studio at twenty-seven after abandoning a business career. Travels through Germany, Holland, and Italy in the early 1850s shaped his practice; his friendship and artistic partnership with Corot deepened when they journeyed together to Italy in 1860.
