Biography
アンドレ・ドラン
Artist community
André Derain co-founded Fauvism with Henri Matisse, channeling the vivid, unnatural colors that earned their works the nickname "wild beasts" at the 1905 Salon d'Automne. Born in Chatou in 1880, he trained under Eugène Carrière alongside Matisse, then shared a studio with Maurice de Vlaminck before military service interrupted his early career. His 1905 summer in Collioure with Matisse proved decisive, as did his 1906 London commission from dealer Ambroise Vollard, which produced thirty paintings of the Thames and Tower Bridge that remain among his most celebrated works.
