Marie Laurencin emerged as a distinctive voice in early twentieth-century Paris, working across painting, printmaking, watercolor, and stage design. Born in the city's 10th arrondissement in 1883, she studied at the Académie Humbert and encountered Cubism through Georges Braque, becoming one of the few women associated with the movement's Section d'Or circle alongside Picasso and Apollinaire. Her romantic entanglement with the poet Apollinaire became legendary, yet she pursued her own artistic vision.
