ヨアヒム・ブーケラール

Joachim Beuckelaer (c. 1533–1570/4) was a Flemish painter who transformed the depiction of ordinary life. Born in Antwerp into a family of artists, he likely trained with his uncle Pieter Aertsen before establishing himself as an independent master in 1560. Beuckelaer specialized in densely packed market and kitchen scenes teeming with produce, fish, and game, often setting abundant earthly displays against small biblical narratives in the background. These compositions—layering temptations of food and flesh with spiritual instruction—proved deeply influential.
