エミール＝ルネ・メナール

Émile-René Ménard painted symbolic landscapes that seemed to capture the soul of nature itself. Born in Paris in 1862, he grew up surrounded by the Barbizon painters—Corot and Millet visited his father's home—and trained under Baudry, Bouguereau, and Lehmann at the Académie Julian from 1880. His work combined classical clarity with an atmospheric, dreamlike quality: scenes of pacified nature where dawn and twilight seemed to hold spiritual meaning.
