ヘンドリック・テル・ブルッヘン

Hendrick ter Brugghen brought Caravaggio's dramatic light and emotional intensity to the Dutch Golden Age. Born in The Hague in 1588, he moved to Utrecht as a child and trained under Abraham Bloemaert before traveling to Italy around 1607. In Rome, he encountered Caravaggio's revolutionary work firsthand, absorbing the bold contrasts of tenebroso technique and the unflinching realism of his subjects. Returning to Utrecht by 1615, ter Brugghen became a leading figure among the Utrecht Caravaggisti, working alongside Gerrit van Honthorst.
