ジョヴァンニ・セガンティーニ

Giovanni Segantini (1858–1899) revolutionized the painting of Alpine landscapes. Born in Arco, then part of the Austrian Empire, he grew up in poverty after his mother's death, eventually finding his way to Milan's Brera Academy, where he joined the Scapigliatura movement seeking to dissolve boundaries between art and life. His partnership with dealer Vittore Grubicy and his devoted companion Bice shaped his artistic evolution. Working en plein air in the mountains, Segantini combined Divisionist technique with luminous detail, capturing Alpine scenery with unprecedented clarity.
