ジョルジュ・ド・ラ・トゥール

Georges de La Tour devoted his career to exploring light and shadow in religious and genre scenes. Born in Vic-sur-Seille in 1593, he established his studio in Lunéville in Lorraine around 1620, where he would remain based for most of his working life. Recognized in his time—he received the title "Painter to the King" in 1638—La Tour developed a distinctive approach to chiaroscuro, using candlelight and torchlight to create geometrically simplified compositions of extraordinary spiritual depth.
