Albrecht Altdorfer was a German painter, printmaker, and architect of the Renaissance who spent most of his career in Regensburg. Born around 1480, likely in the Regensburg area, he became one of the first artists to pursue landscape as an independent subject rather than mere backdrop. A leading figure of the Danube School, Altdorfer pioneered a distinctive vision of nature—dense forests, dramatic light, and panoramic vistas rendered with jewel-like precision and expressive color.
