エドゥアール・ヴュイヤール

Édouard Vuillard painted the intimate domestic world of late nineteenth-century Paris—his mother's sewing workshop, bourgeois interiors, public gardens—by flattening space into patterns and color. Born in 1868 in Burgundy, he moved to the capital as a boy and trained at the Lycée Condorcet, where he befriended future avant-garde artists including Maurice Denis and Ker-Xavier Roussel. By 1890, Vuillard had joined Les Nabis, the prophets of modern art, and began designing theater sets before turning to mural decoration.
