コンスタン・トロワイヨン

Constant Troyon emerged as one of the Barbizon school's most distinctive painters, though his path to recognition was circuitous. Born in Sèvres in 1810, the son of a porcelain decorator, he worked for years as an ornamental painter before turning to landscape art in his twenties. Mentored by Camille Roqueplan, he initially followed the Barbizon painters' approach to nature, but struggled to master landscape alone. His transformation came in 1846 during a journey to the Netherlands, where he encountered the animal paintings of Paulus Potter and the Dutch masters.
