Harold Edgerton made the invisible visible. After earning his doctorate in electrical engineering from MIT in 1931, he pioneered stroboscopic photography, developing the electronic speed flash that could freeze moments too fast for the human eye to see. His high-speed photographs revealed the hidden world of motion: a bullet piercing an apple, a hummingbird's wings mid-beat, the exact instant a bat strikes a ball, milk splashing across a plate.
