Jan van Ravesteyn
Artist community
Jan van Ravesteyn worked his entire life in The Hague, where he became one of the leading portrait painters to the Dutch court in the first half of the seventeenth century. Little is known of his training, but he emerged as a close rival and stylistic follower of the Delft portraitist Michiel van Mierevelt, and by 1604 was already praised as a skilled painter by Karel van Mander, though his earliest surviving dated works come from 1611.
