Masami Teraoka

Masami Teraoka (b. 1936, Onomichi, Hiroshima Prefecture) is a painter and printmaker who has spent his career bending the language of ukiyo-e toward a running commentary on contemporary life. After studying aesthetics at Kwansei Gakuin University, he moved to the United States in 1961 and earned his BFA and MFA at Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles, which awarded him an honorary doctorate in 2016.
