Puanani Van Dorpe (1933–2014) was a Honolulu-born artist who revived kapa, the Hawaiian art of beaten bark cloth, after it had nearly vanished. A former hula dancer, she was inspired in the early 1970s by watching women on the Fijian island of Vatulele make masi cloth, and returned to Hawaii determined to recover the lost craft.
