Reuben Tam

Reuben Tam spent his life moving between Hawaiʻi and the American East Coast, and that movement runs through his paintings. Born in Kapaʻa on Kauaʻi in 1916, he earned a BA at the University of Hawaiʻi, studied at the California School of Fine Art, and then settled in New York, where he studied with Meyer Schapiro at Columbia in the early 1940s and joined the Downtown Gallery in 1945.
