Robert Delaunay

Robert Delaunay (1885–1941) was a Paris-born painter who moved from Neo-Impressionist, mosaic-like brushwork—developed alongside his close friend Jean Metzinger in the mid-1900s—toward a bold, non-figurative art built entirely from color and geometry. With his wife Sonia Delaunay, he founded Orphism around 1912, breaking from Cubism's muted palette to pursue paintings of pure chromatic contrast, most famously his recurring Eiffel Tower and "Disk" motifs.
