Toshiko Takaezu

Toshiko Takaezu (1922–2011) was a Hawaiian-born ceramic artist whose closed, rounded vessels helped move American ceramics from craft into fine art. Born in Pepeʻekeo to Okinawan immigrant parents, she trained at the Honolulu Museum of Art School and the University of Hawaiʻi before studying at Cranbrook Academy of Art, where Finnish ceramist Maija Grotell became a formative mentor.
